ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I prepare the canvas myself, I use high quality oil colors (Rembrandt-Sennelier)and I work on layers upon layers.I love nature, keeps my busy mind at peace and I made a series of paintings as an attempt to combine landscapes I have seen with flowers and plants I grow on my terrace. While painting I am in a meditative state that keeps me safe and sane. Flowers remind me the beauty of the present moment.

I was born and raised in Athens. I work mainly with oil paint as it is a quite versatile medium that allows me to bring to the canvas qualities as transparency , thickness, luminous colours or muted ,layering wet into wet or wet into dry depending on my needs. My style is rather impressionistic or meta-impressionistic. As far as the process of making a painting, I usually start an artwork drawing with a charcoal lines and shapes of the theme I want to depict. Most of the times those lines dictate my process but that’s not always the case. As I apply paint onto the canvas different forms start to emerge which may be interesting or not. Most of my paintings are created by a constant process of building up layers of paint, a process of “destroy and rebuild” until random forms take a life of their own and become part of the composition. Nature and its organic forms, as a point of departure, activate the beauty of this planet inside me and a sense of calm. The meditative state I am in while working is the mood I want to convey. My purpose is to create landscapes enhanced with emotion and dream. My travels and my outdoor activities are a continual inspiration in my painting journey.
