ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A red and white candy dish, part of my colored glass collection, inspired this painting. The diagonal, horizontal, and vertical lines of furniture, light and shadow guide you through the room to the landscape outside. The flat planes of color enhance the stillness of the mundane suburb. This is a gallery wrapped canvas, a frame is not necessary. The painting received an "honorable mention" while on exhibit in the "Recent Works" show in 2018 at the College of Lake County, Grayslake, IL

I am currently based in Texas and make large colorful oil paintings. My work centers on semi-abstract images of light on objects, interiors, and landscape spaces. I use the shapes of light as part of my geometric compositions. My intention is to capture a mood of isolation, a feeling of calm, or other worldly or psychological presence within the spaces I paint. I earned a B.F.A. in painting at Rhode Island School of Design; a B.A. in art from Simmons University, and an art teaching certificate from Central CT State University. I taught art in public schools for about ten years, then began teaching private art lessons at an artist's co-op in Illinois, and guitar lessons through my home based business, now known as Denton County Guitar Studio. I am a member of VAST, Visual arts society of TX, and VAL, Visual art league of Lewisville, and also NOAPS, the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. I have exhibited my paintings in over a hundred galleries, group shows and street fairs in Connecticut, Mass., New York, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and most recently, in Denton and Lewisville, TX. Recent art fairs include "The Other Art Fair, Dallas", 2024, and 2021, and "Art Spectrum, Miami". My work is in several online collections here on Saatchiart. Collectors of my work reside in PA, OK, CA, MD, NY, WA, NC, MD, MA, IL, RI, WI, MI, FL, CO, TX, Sweden, AU, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, and South Korea. Public collections include Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI, and Southern CT State U., in Connecticut. My work is often on view at the MCL Grand Theater Gallery in Lewisville, TX, and at the Patterson-Appleton Gallery in Denton, TX.
