This painting is a rework of an older one. The older one was a painting of the arch at Arches National Park in Utah. After looking at that painting for many years, I decided to rework it. I came up with the idea of interlocking rocks in the middle of the night. To have rocks be able to interlock seemed so far-fetched to me that I felt it would make an almost surreal painting. I used the arch as the beginning the of the rocks. I sketched out what I had envisioned in my sleep and came up with this image. The rocks are painted with Daniel Smith Primatek paints, which are ground from real minerals. The minerals used here are: Hematite, Piemontite, and Mummy Bauxide. You can learn more about the Primatek series on the Daniel Smith website. I use only the finest quality watercolor paints and papers. The paper used here is Arches 300 lb. cold press paper. Both these paints and papers are designed to last well over 100 years. This painting won 1st Place in the Conceptual Abstracts contest sponsored by Fine Art America on Feb. 22, 2022. This painting was accepted into a local art show beginning in July 2023. If it does not sell, it will be made available again here on Saatchi. However, it will be framed so the price will change accordingly. I provide a Certificate of Authenticity as required by Saatchi.

Nancy Riedell, an internationally recognized, award winning artist originally from California and now living in Nevada, graduated from San Francisco State University where she studied Fine Arts. Classes included figure drawing, color values, acrylics, oils, and art history. Nancy’s love of art goes back to childhood as her mother encouraged her to develop her art skills by giving her art materials and art books so that she could develop her technique. Nancy’s current medium is watercolor. The bold use of colors and interesting landscapes has played a strong role in Nancy’s unique paintings. She feels that although she has been working with art since childhood, it is only within the last few years that she has felt the calling to go back into her art. Her work reflects her passion well by using strong, saturated color and theme. Nancy likes to take advantage of every opportunity and is known to photograph subjects for future paintings. She has captured beautiful sunrises in Monterey County, unique beach scenes in Santa Cruz County and unusual rock formations in New Mexico. Nancy’s art has been displayed in galleries in both the United States, England, and most recently, France. Nancy has been in four publications and has received seven awards to date. Nancy is a current member of the California Watercolor Assn, the National Watercolor Assn, and the Sierra Watercolor Society.
