Born in Ukraine (1991) Olga Ermol has been creating artwork since the age of 9 when by accident she walked into an art teachers room, while searching for her guitar lesson in a Soviet music school. The music direction never took off, whilst painting has rapidly became a form of meditation and a subconscious exploration of herself and the world. While studying Graphic Arts in the UK and Interior Design in Italy, painting has always been an old friend she would come back to. At the end of 2018 Ermol finally realised that time has come to stop seeking a more “secure” solution in an office or a studio, and fully dedicate herself to creating artwork, which she has been longing for since high school. Her artwork is aimed at evoking emotion and igniting a personal dialogue between the painting and the viewer, allowing the viewer to distance himself from the day-to-day chaos and float alongside the emotion kindled through Ermol’s colourful interpretations of life. She finds timeless beauty in animal and human figure interpretations. Human sexuality and somewhat “Freudian” motifs frequently slip through her brush, referring to “daddy issues”, ex-lovers, denying sexuality and your sexual identity. She mostly uses vibrant and saturated colours, often finishing an artwork using only a palette knife in order to create a “juicier” raw effect. Currently Ermol is working from her studio in Tuscany, creating oil paintings, sculpture and designing digital patterns and illustrations.
