ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Based on a trip to Southern Sweden by the Baltic Sea, I was looking to heal and find my way through a difficult time in my life. Walking through a pine forest to the sea was a magical experience. The diffused light through the majestic trees acted as a guide and a promise of hope and the future. I used a mixture of wax and gel to create the thin filmy layers depicting the light flares. The painting has a satin varnish.

BIO: Jessie Krause was raised in Princeton. She studied Liberal and Fine Arts at Smith College and New York University. Upon graduation from NYU, she taught art in the NYC Public Schools, while also designing theater sets, murals, and music videos. She continued to develop as an artist at The Art Students League and on the streets of New York, making hundreds of paintings and drawings that became the basis for her nationally sold line of greeting cards. In 2007, she moved to Bucks County, where, for over a decade, she owned and operated Netherfield Gallery in New Hope and Frenchtown. From there her work was collected internationally. Her work is in the collections of musicians Brian Wilson and Carole King. For over a decade, she was the featured artist for The Gray Dog Restaurants in Manhattan. Her painting “Bedazzled” hangs in the administrative offices at MOMA, purchased by of one of the directors. She has three paintings commissioned by Princeton University’s Office of Student Life on permanent display in Nassau Hall. Currently, Jessie resides in Princeton and can be found at Princeton Makes, an artist co-op, where she has a studio.
