ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I created this piece as a response to the cyclical nature of modern life and to, in my own way, show the absurdity of it. Much like real life, this turned out to be rather disturbing in places. The painting is best seen from bottom to top as follows: the bottom is an amalgamation of the act of reproduction, where the climax forms an elongated figure (the main character) who has clearly seen too much. There are 2 figures either side of this, one representing masculinity and the other femininity. The figures representing humanity are surrounded by the conveyor belt on which the objects of capitalism are presented to us, which are delivered into the mouth of the system and converted to money out of frame. In this artificial world, the celestial body has metamorphosed into a large fleshy sphere, a compass is also seen to represent the mathematical nature of the world as well as having sever eyes orbiting it, which calls back to the theme of eyes and how they interact with the mad world. The wall of faces represents the mass of humanity that you see on a daily basis, but rarely reconnect too personally. The beauty of the world is that one's interpretation of it varies, and the same applies to the painting. I was initially inspired by Picasso, for the faces at least, but the work changed quite a bit before i was finished and i think I've executed it in my own style which suits the theme very well. I always use oil for my more complicated works, as i find it to be by far the most versatile for capturing what i want.
