Isabelle in the Garden of Eden Print

This artwork forms a diptych with ‘Kayne in the Garden of Eden’. It is a playful look at gender through the media and religious text. The traditional and very masculine story of Cain and Abel is reimagined through the female form. In the original text, Cain murders his brother. This is very typical of how we invisage masculine relationships, i.e. violent and competitive. In this artwork this brutal beginning of humanity, is replaced with a more sensual interaction. This is closer linked with the harmonious nature that is suggested by ‘Mother Nature’ rather than the ‘heavier’ and more intimidating hand of ‘Father God’.
