ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I was drafted and served in the US Army's Faculty Company, Special Troops from Jan. 1962 to Jan. 1964. This was right before the war in Vietnam became HOT. My platoon sergeant in the year before I was discharged was Harrison C.V. Bell who became a close friend. He was brilliant and tough.Two years after being discharged, married, in advertising and living in NY., I fished my weekly copy of Life magazine out of the mailbox and immediately froze looking at the cover. I recognized Harry immediately on the left. Apparently most of my company were sent to Vietnam. The award winning photo was taken at the battle of An Thé by French war photographer Henri Huet who unfortunately died on assignment in Cambodia.When I started painting I knew it was a subject I had to paint.
