ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"Jack and Diane" is one of a current series of paintings women and girls from the late 1960's early 1970s, and part of my ongoing exploration of depicting real women and girls enjoying and experiencing life in and around the water. These particular girls resonated with me on a couple of different levels. They're at that really interesting age, young adolescents, where they are no longer little kids but they are still far from adulthood. ("Testing the Waters" was a close second choice for the title of this piece!) The colors, clothes, the pose, the faces - it feels like a moment of my own youth never captured on film in the 70s.

Welcome to my World of Women and Waves! Ready to dive into a world of seascapes and real women enjoying whatever they damn well please? I'm an oil painter who loves color and movement and all things beachy! I'm a feminist with 3 awesome daughters, 2 chaotic pets, and 1 talented, author husband. I drink a ton of black coffee, and walk a bunch of dogs to clear my head. I find myself thinking "Whattheeverlovin'fuck?" a lot, sooo...learning to meditate, keeping the gratitude journal, living with "progress not perfection" as a motto in my studio! My art concerns: I was raised in a small village at the edge of a fierce sea and to me, sweeping ocean horizons speak of escape, change, and freedom. My figurative and portrait work tend to invoke similar themes through feminism, climate, and immigration. In all of my work I am constantly looking to capture the energy, movement, and intensity of our ever-shifting world and the women in it!
