ABOUT THE ARTWORK

15 x 21 inches, 20.5 x 26.5 framed Painted onsite on a beautiful arboretum in Maryland. The colors look autumn-like at the top but they are actually the spring color of the trees and May blossoms in the background. Painted almost exclusively with a palette knife. The paint is thick and expressive. A beautiful day I will remember forever. Miranda Girard graduated summa cum laude from Maryland Institute College of Art with a Bachelor’s Degree in General Fine Arts and a minor in Creative Writing, and received an MFA in Visual Arts, with high honors, from Western Connecticut State University. Miranda has also studied at Studio Escalier, a contemporary classical art center in Argenton-Chateau, France; Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts; Silvermine Art Center; Sacred Heart University; The Art Students League; Zoll School of Fine Art; and Sotheby's Institute of Art. Instructors include Sangram Majumdar, Carl Plansky, Palden Hamilton, David Kassan, Barry Nemett, Timothy Stotz, N. Michelle Tully and others. Select awards include the W. B. Connor Trust, the Connecticut University Grant, Studio Escalier Waterway Fellowship, Maryland Institute College of Art Trustee Scholarship and Trumbull, Connecticut’s Artist of the Year. Her works are in private collections in the United States and Europe.

The narrative use of subtle cues of color, texture, and composition present a familiar person, place or object in a fresh way, allowing the viewer to pause, dream, reflect. Perhaps memories awaken and senses stir. Perhaps, if only for a moment, as the viewer ‘reads’ the painting, present time succumbs to imagination and reverie."
