About the Artist

Ute Ringel

Germany

Mostly the portraits are produced in a classical manner in front of the model. The presence and the concentration of the person distinctly flows into the painting itself. The challenge is to dedicate as much attention to the person as possible, and less so to the screen. That determines the quality of the work. What originates are so-called "psychological portraits". The painted person often rediscovers parts of his/her self identity, which he did not suspect to be on the surface. It is often the case, that brothers, sisters, uncles, parents are more recognizable in the paintings than the actual person recognizes him/herself. I myself do not include my own interpretation (e.g. the mood of the depicted). I only paint what I see indeed, whereas it does not play a big role which color I chose, but only "that there is something". Since 2010 the series of brother paintings is emerging. I began painting friends and acquaintances from my direct surroundings in America. By now they include also strangers from the street.
