ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is meant to draw the viewer into a swarm of migrating Monarch Butterflies. The yellow and white background suggests the large winged insects are following the sun as the earth tilts northwar making the sun appear to be drifting southward. Some Monarchs have summered as far north as southeastern Canada. Their destination is a few mounaintops in south central Mexico. Insects tagged in Canada have been found on mountain tops in Michoacan, Mexico. It will take several generations of the butterflies to reach their most northern destination, but those hatched from eggs laid in the north will make the entire thousands of miles flight back to the place their great, great, .. grandparents were hatched.

She also uses watercolor to show the dignity of indigenous peoples she has met on her travels across Latin America.
