Majid Eskandari is a contemporary abstract painter. He was born in Tehran, Iran, and currently resides in Toronto, Canada. In addition to informal training under a traditional master, Majid holds a BFA from Tehran Art University and a Fine Art Studio diploma from Centennial College. He has participated in several international group exhibitions. “Throughout my journey in painting, I have explored everything from non-representationalism and abstraction to high realism in search of my true personal voice. The subjects of my current work are often people, animals, or distinctive objects. However, I don’t aim to depict them realistically. I use them simply as subject matter—interpreting them loosely and emotionally to maintain visual interest. In other words, I see the subject as a collection of marks within the painting. Leaving much of the canvas open and free is important to me—likely influenced by the openness found in many traditional Oriental compositions.”
