Maeve studied a degree in Fine Art and then trained in theater costume. She worked back stage, dressing actors and making costumes in her earlier career. Her appreciation of theater and fashion has informed her practice. She is captivated by popular culture, magazine covers, vintage posters and advertisements that depict aspiration and invoke a feeling of nostalgia and glamour. Her Art is an extension of her study of the power of language and how it effects one’s environment. Her own life has been influenced by the spiritual movement that preaches about how the 'power of thought' and visualization can be used to manifest one’s desires. She typically focuses on one or two words in conjunction with the format of advertising to create an emotional response. Her process is initially ignited by a response to combat negative emotions or to create a positive emotion or scenario. Drawing on a positive mantra that comes to her as an aid, she then designs a visual representation of the outcome. Her intention has always been to create Art that has an easily identifiable meaning in a playful manner to create positive energy.
