ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is part of my Blue Boy series - a series which explores men and emotions, in particular loss and grief. It was originally inspired by a photo of my husband taken one summer when he was in his early thirties and had just lost his father. The B&W photo shows a beautiful young man with a smile but deep sadness in his eyes. Maybe it's generational but many men were raised to hide their emotions, suppress them. It wasn't manly to cry. And, often, grief expresses itself as anger. Men feel loss and grief deeply but were never taught how to manage their emotions in healthy ways. It's ok. It's human. It needs to be released. Let the tears flow. C.S. Lewis — 'I sat with my anger long enough until she told me her real name was grief.'

Visual and mixed media artist. I returned to painting after a long gap, after suffering a stroke a few years back. What started as art as therapy has become daily, joyful creative play inspired by colour and light, The interplay between words and images intrigues me and I'm fascinated by women - their emotions, connection with nature, relationships with themselves and other women. I'm currently working on a series called 'The women' which celebrates sisterhood. I also explore abstract floral and landscape art. Seeking beauty and sparking joy as part of my personal well-being journey. As Matisse once said, 'There are always flowers for those who want to see them.' Originally from the blueberry laden Atlantic shores of Canada, I now live in Sardinia with my husband (the poet farmer) and Violetta (the cat muse).
