ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Kentucky Blue is inspired from an early work- one where color and the anatomy of a horse were examined. Kentucky Blue expands on the friendship readily exchanged between animals and people. As language is not readily available, the sense of emotion and common understanding when experienced is not denied. A photo was used to inform my painting, found in an article on the original Kentucky Derbies. The use of slaves from the plantations in Kentucky was common. My desire inspired action to depict two beings used for their strength in a space where their feelings mattered.
