About The Artwork

A barefoot little girl, holding a lantern, stumbles across the fallen moon in a dark forest. The moon is giving off its own glow while the girl's lantern provides a little light of its own. Is she "Li'l Luna"? Or is it the moon itself that is "L'il Luna"? It matters not. The inspiration behind this painting came as a result of a birthday present from my son who gave me book titled "The Moon = From Inner Worlds to Outer Space". It featured paintings and illustrations of the moon and, having done a number of paintings involving the moon, I decided to do a new one which of course had to be in my surrealist mode. So I searched for images involving the moon and ultimately decided to create a fallen moon in the forest. I wanted to add in a human touch and rather than use my man in a bowler hat, I decided instead to feature a young girl discovering the moon. The dark forest at night, the barefoot little girl, and the moon glow all help to create a magical feel to the painting. It was great fun to create but quite tedious as well, including painting all four sides of the painting since it is a gallery wrap. Enjoy!

I am a modern day, self-taught surrealist. I paint ideas. My goal is to depict the impossible or at least, the highly improbable. When people view my paintings, it's readily apparent what is going on, just not always easily understandable as to why. My paintings will make you think and hopefully, bring a smile to your face.
