I would describe my practice as being colour-oriented, experimental and conceptual. For painters the act of mixing colours is the first step of materializing thoughts, passions and ideas in a physical state. But it usually is just a preparatory step best suited to match the gap between idea and desired depiction, when in fact it is a process so specifically linked to painting, so much so, it can define the medium. I feel that colour mixing itself has the potential to be a means of communication and self-expression. Containing and revealing the artist’s attitude from when he interacted with the canvas, it acts as the equivalent of body language and facial expression in a verbal conversation. The hallmarks of the painter’s thoughts become clearer, being carried along with the choices made while selecting what precise mixture to stop at. The act of cleaning the brush by a sudden colour discharge on the canvas is an explicit way of using the created colours. This step closes a cyclical and well established painting ritual which starts by mixing the desired colours, applying them on the canvas by a set of conventions and then cleaning the instrument. Rubbing the remaining colour on a cloth marks, if not the completion of the painting, a breaking point from a certain colour mixture.
