Light & Shadow No.1 tempera powder on wood 145 x 185 cm. Images appear in my head. I truly believe that these images reflect the states I am in. Thoughts and feelings come and go throughout the day, and only the images are left at the end of the day. They are in constant change and I am motivated to bring such images to life. Each painting is a reflection of the countless thoughts and emotions that passed through me in the process. We are always surrounded by feelings. Everyone experiences the feeling of happiness, sadness, anger and such, without knowing when they come and go or how to face them. My interest is on the occurrence of emotions and recognition of such phenomenon. I came to question myself, 'would recognizing the changes of emotion help us to stay happy in happiness?'. It is now my belief that happiness can begin from inner-self. I am truly fascinated by the relationship between emotions and acknowledgement. The main material I use is tempera powder. I am especially fascinated by its appearance on the surface. I conducted numerous experiments in the search of the technique that can express what I feel. Eventually, I settled the technique using tempera powder. It is actually one of the technical processes used in Thai traditional painting to draft or copy images before painting. To me, the way bits of powder look impresses me every time.

Thailand
Sittiphon Lochaisong, alias ‘Bomb’, was born in Mahasarakham, Thailand. He graduated from the University of Silpakorn, Bangkok, Thailand, with Bachelor and Master of Arts Degrees in visual arts. His paintings are a subtle combination of traditional Thai spiritual influence combined with his own unique vision. Ambiguous dots are joined and assembled creating free-floating stellar-scapes where figures and symbols meet with imagination and sensation. The spontaneous combines with delicacy, reflecting and embracing the complex and extreme nature of existence – a place of birth, life, death and the eternal. Lochaisong’s hope is to create paintings that have the potential to motivate the viewer to examine their own interconnected existence: where one can consciously perceive the unstoppable propulsion and expanse of nature and their place within it. His abstracted ‘universes’ are a place where the viewer is compelled to concentrate, and rewarded with a glimpse of a deeper understanding of a greater truth.
