LOWER EAST SIDE continues a series inspired by New York City architecture. Composition, gesture, mark-making, color, or lack of color, energetic brushstrokes and balance were main concerns. I have been painting my entire life, which has in most ways defined my life. Expressing myself through the medium of painting has allowed me a visual platform to share my firm belief that less can certainly be more. In my non-figurative work I am most interested in shape, balance, composition – all of which I achieve a pleasant tension causing a sense of meditative solitude. And it is this meditative solitude that runs through all my work. Colors, and how they work together is also a major concern. A major influence on my present work centers on architectural themes present in large cities, namely New York city and London.
