The work places the Sphinx as the absolute protagonist of the scene, enigmatic and monstrously fascinating with the body of a lion and a woman, this monster with bat wings and a pronounced anatomy suggests its danger. On a rocky hill the rest of the Sphinx is disturbed by an unexpected noise that leads her to get up to understand who or what is approaching, while her feminine features and gold and precious stones ornaments distract our sight from her gaze enigmatic oozes cruelty. Her eyes are caught by something, maybe it's a passerby or it's Oedipus himself, the one who will be able to answer her riddle.
