This unusual contrasting 2-tone color print was inspired during a late night stroll along a Gulf of Mexico beach. Since it was late night, I did not have a camera with me and painted the original from memory! The reflection on the water was produced from the crescent moon and brilliance of the clouds. The "12' x 24"' oil painting (almost negative film portrayal) hopefully connects with and reminds our viewers of late night oceanfront strolls and special memories! The original painting was on canvas and is available in fine print paper only! This 12" x 24" painting, titled 'Late Night Exposure', is available only in print.

I have always been mesmerized by a wide range of contrasts—in the colors of nature, in the design of downtown business signs, in observing peoples different personalities, etc.! It was my interest in contrasts and their interactions within life and all of creation that naturally led me to incorporate them into my drawings and ultimately into my oil paintings. In my early years of oil painting, I enjoyed creating ‘visible contrasts’ in my landscapes--such as in color, subjects, brightness, etc. However, after many years of absence from painting due to job positions, I began discovering ‘invisible contrasts’ within mine and other artists paintings, which raised my curiosity immensely and inspired me to see beyond the visible…to discover the inconspicuous contrasts as well! I define ‘invisible contrasts’ as hidden or unseen contrasting expressions… which cause us to reflect upon a connection with the painting that represents a part our own life’s journey! So, I currently strive to incorporate both--’visible and invisible contrasts’ within each of my oil paintings! Some contrasts are intentionally created, while others unintentionally develop as my painting progresses toward completion. In either case, the contrasts produce a deeper, richer and more meaningful oil painting for both to explore—the viewer and myself...in group discussions or in solo contemplation! Some question artwork by asking--”What is the artist striving to say or convey?” While I believe the question certainly is excellent and a very important one...to me (as an artist) the more meaningful question/contrasting question for each of us to ask (as a viewer) is--”Am I being inspired by this painting to reflect and discover a part of ‘My Own Story or ‘My Own Life’ in it?” The emphasis shifts from the artist through the painting...to the Viewer through the painting, as they have the opportunity to freely discover in their own way and time—a moment… a time...a situation that stirs and touches their heart...their story...their life! Therefore, I invite each of you on a journey to discover contrasts within my paintings—of not only what can be seen...but to also seek beyond--into what is unseen and invisible! It may take a while to develop such insights but to do so, means that each of us may discover a connection with the painting and be inspired to seek that which reflects a part of ‘Our Own Story’ or ‘Our Own Life’ as well! Take care...peace...in your life’s journey!
