ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Based on the news, the artist expressed his vision of the recent political processes in the USA. Peaceful protests against racism and police brutality in the US in 2020 were hijacked by gangsters and rioters who turned them into violent attacks on statues, federal and private property and on American history itself. The violence spread far beyond symbols of slavery, and statues of Christopher Columbus, Abraham Lincoln, and Founding Fathers were vandalized. One of the basic rights, liberty to express an opinion, is also under attack, and censorship and political correctness are the major guidelines. This undermines the very foundation of democratic society. The statue of Thomas Jefferson, one of the authors of the Declaration of Independence, which states that "All men are created equal", was toppled down. But his words: "Bigotry is a disease of ignorance, of morbid minds" still hold true.
