Loch an Eilein is an extremely beautiful loch, situtated in Rothiemurchus Pine forests in the highlands of Scotland. It has a dramatic backdrop of the Cairngorms mountains, and a ruined island castle in the Loch itself. This scene has been painted in oils in an impressionistic style, it is textured in parts and has been layered with pallet knife and brush.

She then takes away or adds more paint over these marks when dry, as the scene starts to take shape. This gives her work a textual and realist look and feel, so the viewer can be lost momentarily within the scene. In her work Hazel sends out a message of not only the beauty of trees, but also how important they are to the future of the climate.
