I paint figures in landscape settings. I have developed several narrative structures: the migrations, the workers, the faith, the other stories and rural life. The Migrations are both ancient and current; we are all migrating either physically or emotionally. The work then as now, is hard and unremunerative, as in Weed Picking. Paintings in the past directly communicated with the viewers because they knew the stories and characters. That kind of connection in a beautiful painting is what I aim for.
