THE VISCERAL ALCHEMY OF THE IN-BETWEEN JO THORNE is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work exists at the edge of things, where the natural world dissolves into dream, and the physical becomes something wilder. Her semi-abstract oils draw from myth, memory and the ferocious beauty of the botanical world, using colour and form to coax something that breathes, neither fully real nor entirely imagined, but luminous and alive in the space between. She creates art to celebrate. To restore. To remind us that beauty is radical, joy is resistance, and nature, given the chance, will always break through. Her current sculptural trilogy, The Art of Unbinding, marks a significant evolution in her practice. Working with a deconstructed wedding dress, wax, rust, ash and found materials, Jo charts a journey from entrapment to liberation; myth and personal experience woven together. Working from her studio in Bristol, and a fine art graduate of the University of Hertfordshire, whether on canvas or in sculpture her practice is driven by the same impulse: to alchemise raw feeling into material truth.
