This work was inspired by my experience through life for the past through years, where I've encountered many struggles and eventually got back up following on from them. The main metaphor in this piece is that of losing the reins (control) of your life. The painting is set in a chariot racing arena and the track represents your journey through life, the figure in the chariot is representative of me or any other living person, who, in this case, has committed an indiscretion and lost control of his life. I chose this subject as i felt it represented with a sense of cruel beauty the crash in someone's life, where they've made a mistake and have crashed with the demon pursuing them too closely to recover and carry on around the track. Of course, whilst all of this is going on the crowd cheers and observes you, which can make you feel like your life is a spectacle where everyone wants the most entertaining outcome. I think the motif of one's demons constantly trying to catch up with you whilst you try and make your way through life as swiftly as possible is relatable to all, and i believe that the work will produce similar feelings to what I felt.
