About The Artwork

Here I have returned to some realism, although I do not consider myself a realist or a portraitist. These styles are only or seemingly perfunctory to what I want to convey. This painting is part of my ‘Allegoric’ series where I address social issues, current affairs and life as it may be, as in pop-art. The model here is my lovely grand niece who I used to call ‘Little M’ who no longer is little, but has grown into a beautiful, bright young lady. I guess she is Emma now. Indeed the impression of the image painted is of a young lady. Believe it or not, as reference I used a photo of her when she must have been around seven years old, hardly changing the essence of the photo. This is the point, I did what most of society, media and some cultures are doing to childhood. Dressing it up, putting it to fast forward and then something seems to be missing in a life. There is that fine line to when one starts to grow up, all developing circumstances count and so does the teaching and experience. Sadly, social media can be a leader with all its pros and cons, like a surrogate community. I suppose life has been like so though eras, transmuting to modern life of the time. Someway, growing up does take its course with whether it is with love, by time, through harsh cruelty, through war, but take childhood away and a lot is lost. *For this painting, I decided to use a 640g/m thick paper with acrylic based mixed media and not oils for this instance, like with the others in this series. It would need framing and although the painting does have a protective varnish, I would suggest that it is also protected behind a glass.

Jason is a painter and illustrator of various styles and different media for different ends. Principally a surrealistic and abstract artist, he has a fondness for satire and caricature, with a hint of humour fantasy and the whimsical. Nevertheless, there is a realistic and a sober aspect to some of his work too. His different genres of works are ongoing series which are added to from time to time, whether it is his Aviary, Abstract, Allegoric or any other style he employs. World events, social affairs and politics draw his attention, but he can be inspired by everything and anything seen, heard or felt. His expression can be direct or ambiguous. What is prevalent throughout his work is light, movement and flow, hardly any black is employed, leaning towards enlightenment.
