Bruno Mascolo was born in Italy, raised in England and fell in love with America. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was one of the four Mascolo brothers that founded the world’s most recognized hair styling companies, Toni&Guy, in London in 1963. Bruno launched the Toni&Guy Salons and the TIGI product division in America by opening the first salon in Dallas, Texas. He grew this to become a chain of salons throughout Texas and in key cities in other states, where he also developed a Franchise Division. During this, he maintained TIGI product distributions throughout America. In 1990, Bruno opened the first Toni&Guy Academy in Dallas but it was not until his wife joined the company that Bed Head was formed. This changed the whole landscape of their business. They worked to design the entire look of Bed Head, thinking of every detail from the bottle shape to the colors and even the funky names that each one had. It was their innovative marketing and public relations ideas that helped Bed Head become one of the best products in the professional market until Bruno sold it in 2009 for over $400,000,000. Since his retirement in 2018, he has been pursuing his vision of helping other people by making himself available for consulting as well as following his other passion of art. He said : “While I was CEO I realized that if I wanted to relax it wasn’t enough to relax and vegetate on the couch watching TV, I found the best thing to do was to move from the left side of my brain to the artistic side of the brain and that’s when I started to paint. That’s when I started to have a love affair with color and became really involved with painting. It helped me stay in the moment and I taught myself. I never took any classes and it started to become second nature, blending colors and not only doing great sketches and paintings but it was an emotional experience that made it flow out of me letting me express my feelings. It gave me an emotional experience and helped me truly express myself. I continue to do it now because I’ve really fell in love with art and I see it in a different light then I did before.”
