Roxlee's work encompasses writing, performance, illustration, painting, and music, yet he is best known for his animation and unconventional filmmaking. He started out as a writer and illustrator for Jingle Magazine and created the comic strip Cesar Asar for Manila Bulletin, one of the leading broadsheet in the Philippines. A pioneer of independent film-animation in the Philippines, his style known for its spontaneity and irreverent situational ideas, rather than fanciful techniques and linear storytelling. His edgy approach and distinctly surreal sense of humor are especially tangible in early works.
