Born in Butterworth, Eastern Cape, South Africa, he was raised by a single mother alongside three siblings. Music was an integral part of his upbringing, as his mother was a singer in her early years, instilling in him a lifelong appreciation for the arts. His artistic style is a result of relentless experimentation and self-refinement, honed through trial and error as a self-taught artist. The COVID-19 pandemic marked a turning point in his life, as he grappled with the loss of his mother. In the midst of grief, sketching became his solace, reigniting a longstanding passion. Contemplating abandoning his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Nelson Mandela, he instead found inspiration in Immanuel Kant's "Categorical Imperative". This philosophical framework liberated him as an artist, freeing him from the constraints of external judgment and expectation. As a painter, he seeks to disrupt conventions and challenge the status quo, drawing inspiration from Basquiat's rebellious spirit. His work explores the nexus of identity, social justice, and emotions, often incorporating unconventional materials and techniques to convey urgency and freedom. Through his art, he subverts imposed norms, embracing imperfection and experimentation. His paintings reflect his experiences, emotions, and perspectives, inviting viewers to question their assumptions and biases. Characterized by texture, color, and expressive mark-making, his work is rough, unapologetic, and deliberately imperfect. By embracing the unknown, he creates art that is visually striking, thought-provoking, and emotionally resonant. His work can be identified by his distinctive signature, typically rendered as "000°0", which corresponds to A'Que. In this notation, each letter is substituted with a zero, and the apostrophe is represented by the degree symbol (°), referred to by the artist as the floating zero. Alternatively, some pieces feature a bee motif, symbolizing House 32. The bee is often depicted holding a cup of coffee, a nod to the artist's pseudonym, Kofi.mugg.
