About The Artwork

My work named MORBUS HODGKIN st. IIA is a series of paintings made in the year 2005/2006. Paintings are created as a part of personal research of a relationship between a sick person and his enviroment, and speak about change that happends to a person during or after the radio and chemotherapy. People in my enviroment often terat diferently sick and healty person. It is a dual between immortality (comic book heroes) and mortality (the text of chemotherapy tretmant), and the changes that a person goes through when faced with possible termination. The pitcures are composed of two parts: the first part are comic book heroes (many times also changed by influence of radiation or chemotherapy), and the second part is the diagnosis-text that is hiden behind the heroes

I was born in Zagreb. Live and work in Zagreb and Wiena. All of my work derives from my personal experience of being diagnosed with a terminal disease. The main theme of all of my work is - the end. End representing death, end of a period in life, childhood's end, end of the world. During my treatment, from something abstract, the end has become something very real to me, and it started to intrigue me. My work consists of painting cycles that always contain elements from my life. The cycles often appear as scenes from a comic book, or I use comic books as a source of inspiration. I'm also inspired by other media, such as movies or music and books. In particular, I'm intrigued by classical SF literature (Stanislaw Lem, Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, Arthur C. Clark) and punk-rock culture of the 80's (works of Robert Longo). I also use comic strip and film framing and make use of the multiplicity of options to set my canvases within an exhibition area so that it allows various possibilities of interpreting a story. In addition, the possibility to place the canvases like triptychs with all possible combinations brings about a process where ''new'' paintings continue to appear within a composition, which allows the observer to find himself a story center of his own. http://rbk25.blogspot.com/ http://renebk.tumblr.com/ http://renebachrach-kristof.wix.com/rbk25
