About The Artwork
Macallan’s was founded in 1824 by a farmer Alexander Reid. He was one of the first distillers in Great Britain to obtain a license to produce whisky, and he retained ownership until 1868. The original Gallic name was Maghellan. The name was eventually changed to Macallan where it adorns the distillery today. In the early years the whisky was blended from several spirits of the time. After the sales plunge of whisky in the 1980s, Macallan started distilling single malt whisky, labeling it as a luxury brand. The spirit starts as 100% malted barley. Once alcohol has been produced, it is distilled through one of Macallan’s small stills. The chemical reaction between the whisky and copper eliminates the sulfur and other unpleasant odors before it goes into the barrels, that have previously held sherry and bourbon. This painting celebrates this iconic drink and would be a perfect addition to any man cave, game room, or office.
