"God is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh." - Voltaire Hello, my name is Guy Salem. I began painting in 1998 after suffering an aneurysm and a subsequent stroke. After 3 surgeries and intense rehabilitation I struggled to regain my strength and the life I had before. The stroke left me virtually without speech and an intense weakness on the right side of my body. While attending speech therapy at Texas Women’s University I began taking art classes and discovered it was an interesting although very different way of communicating my feelings. I also began teaching an art class for other stroke survivors at the University. I have exhibited works in the Ft. Worth Modern. I also have several pieces which hang in the University. I was featured in a CBS Television Christmas special, entitled “Miracle Man”. I have gone from the moment the doctors said there was no hope whatsoever I would even survive to not only surviving but to become an accomplished artist. My art style comes from my soul. Although I do title my art I prefer simply to invoke whatever emotion comes from anyone who enjoys it..
