I create my art to understand the mysteries of my mind. Artists emerge themselves in their art, and to do that, and you have to dive deep. Machu Picchu is such a painting. I knew I wanted to paint Machu Picchu, one of the 7 wonders of the world. As I created with pastels on pastel board, unusual images begin to appear. The first image is a black jaguar and the next an Eagle. Adding the jaguar and the eagle brings some new thoughts about Machu to my mind. Machu Picchu had strong protection, but from whom and why? What were this image's goals, and what was at stake for us to remember or not remember about Machu Picchu? Why is Machu Picchu so special? It is considered by many to be the most spectacular urban creation of the Inca Empire and one of the world's most important heritage sites. It sits on top of a mountain, 8,000 feet (2,430 meters) in the tropical forest, offering spectacular scenery with significant endemic biodiversity of flora and fauna. But I like to go deeper with the meanings of anything with my art. Why do I feel this urge? And where does this feeling of an experience of dig deeper, learn more come from? I like to think there is more to life than what we see through our eyes. I want to engage my imagination and see what appears with my paintbrush. Living with creating art is like being the creator or architect of one of the ancient world's seven wonders. This quote from a google search sums it all up: " The amazing works of art and architecture are known as the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World serve as a testament. To the ingenuity, imagination, and sheer hard work of which human beings are capable. However, they are also reminders of the human capacity for disagreement, destruction, and, possibly, embellishment." Maybe that is why we as human beings need a reminder. A good reminder is that we always have a higher power, images of strong meanings to keep us on the right discovery path, not destruction. The idea of embellishment, as an artist, I think is not only fun but ok.
