Mahamaya Print

My latest painting titled “Mahamaya”is inspired from Madhubani art . Originates around 2500 years ago, it’s Indian paintings practiced in the Mithila region of (Dharbhanga) Bihar. These paintings are popular because of their tribal motifs and use of bright, earthy colours. vibrant and bold use of colours and traditional geometric patterns that supports the main theme. There are different styles of Madhubani art,this one is done on a Bharni style. “Bharni” means filling. You will not find any empty gaps in the painting. I have used brushes, nib-pens,water colour & pencil colours on a 14.5”x 10.6” handmade paper. The beauty of the artform is every inch of the canvas is filled up vibrantly i.e. the intricate double lined border, ornate floral patterns, royal courtyard walls, all revolves round the beautiful abstract figure of the epitome of Shakti Maa Durga, use of the powerful elements of universe around her the bright sun, fish, snake, lotus, lion,conchshell, trishula, lotus adds to the asthetics of the art. It also draws around the use of bright primary colours like red, Royal blue, green and yellow. It’s my first attempt to do something on this line.
