ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is one of my "Indian Rasa" series. This painting depicts the 'Raudram Rasa' or aesthetic experience of power which can destroy any disharmony to attain Shanta Rasa(peace). In Indian philosophy, there are nine Rasas and this is one of them. The color also evokes the same emotion of human expression. The painting is framed by a black softwood frame. The dimension of the painting with frame is 17” X 17”.

I started painting when I was 5 years old. At the age of 12 I was able to handle watercolor and oil colors proficiently under the guidance of Chandrasekhar N. a renowned and accomplished artist of India. Later I joined DMS Fine Art Academy for my BFA and then MVA. Then I moved to Mumbai, the hub of Art in India and settled. In between around 10 years I worked in the field of media and animation and worked as a faculty in Zee Institute of Creative Art, Mumbai for 8 years. I always tried to express my emotions towards life and truth through my paintings and experimented to depict it through the language of art. I observe everything around me and try to portray what appeals me with loosely used brushstrokes. I love to use watercolor, oil and acrylic but sometime work with pigments. Some of my works basically deal with Indian aesthetics which is evident from the economy of lines used and simplicity of expression. Sometime the paintings display a subtle understanding of spiritualism and offer a bridge between realism and abstraction (rational and irrational world / tangible and the intangible world). I emphasize on Indian principles making extensive use of Indian motifs. What I try to express is 'Navarasa', the nine expressions.
