Although oil painting was my first artistic love, I spent 30+ years writing songs and fronting an original music Celtic-tinged Hard Folk & Fiddle band named St. Huckleberry ( ). Passing up a record contract with Geffen Records, my wife Laura (violist/fiddler in the band), the kids and I chose to live away from "it all" in the solitudinous granite and pines chambers of Maine. With the recent 2019-2020 dissolution of band activities, I thought it natural to return to my first artistic love. Sure I'm lacking 30+ years of oil painting skill development, but I'm not lacking 30+ years of songwriting development. Like the unschooledness of the music, I expect the painting to also develop uninhibited by influence, untethered by unseen regulations of teachers imposing the law of their vision upon my mind. After all, isn't that the point of art? To know oneself, and be oneself, to the fullest degree possible? Yes it is.
