Alida Velea was born in a small town, Slanic Prahova and she currently lives and works in Bucharest, Romania. With a degree in engineering, the decision to transition to the field of fine arts came from a strong inner passion. Thus, a few years later after graduating from the first university, in 2020, Alida obtained a First Class Honors Degree, in Fine Arts, from the University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. Alida's artistic focus lies in the exploration of one's own cultural identity and its interaction with the personal and social events that shape our lives. Her approach to painting predominantly embodies a figurative style, which she integrates into a cubism with slightly abstract or surrealist notes. She often combines this traditional approach with modern technologies and diverse mediums, resulting in the creation of unique and authentic works of art. Her works have been included in various exhibitions, both personal ("Collection of stamps from Romania: 1967-1985", Piacenza, Italy, “In Enigmata", Brancovan Palaces, Bucharest, Romania) and group, including "RENOVART: Inner Colors, 100 artists for the future" Matera, Italy, "The way of seeing the world", Heidenreichstein (Austria), "Art that unites", Munich (Germany). In 2025, in addition to the personal exhibition from Bucharest, she exhibited at two biennials: the Basel Biennial (Switzerland) and the “Alexandru Ciucurencu” Biennial, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tulcea (Romania) as well as in several group exhibitions, including: “Boarding Pass” (part of the Wanderlust project), the Annual Salon of the Members of the Râmnicu Vâlcea Branch of the Union of Visual Artists Romania, as well as in the collective exhibitions “Remembering to Be”, Milan (Italy), ”Rome Contemporary: Identities, Nature Speaks, Future Spaces” (Italy). Her works have received numerous merit awards and have been published in various art magazines and books, including the “Jubilee of hope: art as a way of rebirth” Catalogue, a bilingual book printed on the 2025 jubilee year of the Catholic Church, with the theme “Pilgrimages of Hope”.
