ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Blessed Mother of God, Mary, inspired this work. I also wanted to add that I worked and re-worked this portrait several times. Originally, it was totally different. Then, I attempted to copy an image drawn by an Italian Mystic which has been in the "Little Blue Pieta Prayer Booklet", but I failed at that. Finally, this image came through, and I believe that Mary, specifically in the image of "Our Lady of Guadalupe", worked through myself onto the canvas. I didn't "study" the image, even though we have this famous image in our bedroom. But, if you look at it closeup, it looks like a "front view" of it [e.g. The image is 3/4 view]. This isn't something that I aimed it, in any way. It wouldn't be that difficult to do; just look at any Character Design sheet in animation and there are front, side and 3/4 views. But, I feel that this was her gift to me. Believe it or not. I hope that those that view this image will feel her love and never-ending encouragement. I chose acrylic paint because it is easy to work with, for my temperament. I chose Mary because my wife was away and working on this image gave me great comfort. The style is simple/linear, {purple and yellow with a white background} yet realistic.

Most of my experience is studying/working in animation and working on Life Drawing focused upon studies of "The Masters". This study reached a peak when I was teaching Art at St. Joseph High School in Hammonton, NJ, and would often place studies of the Masters on the blackboards, whiteboards and anything available to share this with my students. Recently, I started creating Art that is more focused upon my Faith. As I get older, I realize that this Faith is more valuable than gold, and one can never truly understand this fact until one comes to the end of Life.
