The idea of customizing masks or painting them is not recent in Tarek's work since he had already produced a few pieces in 2010. During his stay in Cameroon in 2017, he painted walls in schools at the Ministry of Tourism. He also shared his passion with other Cameroonian painters who participated in the murals. On the spot, he was able to acquire many African masks which were sources of influence for his work. Back in France, he customized some of these and painted a large series of canvases entitled Masque(s) exhibited at the Philippe Gelot gallery (Paris 4th) and at the Kvasnevski gallery (Paris 17th). This theme has been close to his heart for a long time, whether in painting, comics, or even muralism.
