Mason&Dixon Print

This painting, the largest and most elaborate to date of my "books" series on paper, riffs on pages from (and the cover of) Thomas Pynchon's novel Mason&Dixon, with its many distant and interlocking territories and explorations. I discuss and pay tribute to this book by Thomas Pynchon by including radically mixed media, impenetrable distances, incomprehensible and quickly changing configurations, references to language and monarchy and lines being drawn perhaps not as straight as might have been desired. The work includes blurred areas of encaustic, very precise lettering and many stages between. It is one of a large series of drawing/paintings and mixed media collages (2016-present) inspired by specific books: Mason&Dixon, Moby Dick by Melville, At Swim-Two-Birds by O'Brien, Infinite Jest by Wallace, Tristram Shandy by Sterne, White Guard by Bulgakov, Mrs. Dalloway by Woolf, and other texts that are not books, including product packages and advertising. I enjoy making these and would be delighted to take commissions for a drawing or collage of any size inspired by a particular book, specific page of a book, or any other text (signs, advertisements, Wikipedia pages, etc.) of your choice.
