Georgian artist Michael (Mikheil) Makharadze works at the intersection of traditional painting and contemporary conceptual thinking, creating symbolic narratives that explore the human condition, existence, and the fragile process of searching for meaning. Grounded in philosophical inquiry, his practice approaches painting as a form of visual reflection — a space where personal experience confronts universal questions. At the core of Makharadze’s work is the human being as the highest value and central subject. Through archetypal figures, mythological motifs, and hyperbolized forms, he examines themes of identity, absurdity, belief, memory, and the perception of reality — viewed through the eyes of a finite observer set against the backdrop of cosmic infinity. His visual scenes often convey a sense of suspension in time, as if each episode exists between past and future, reality and metaphor. Makharadze’s visual language is deeply symbolic. Each painting functions as an independent narrative while simultaneously forming part of a unified imagined world — a parallel reality in which meaning unfolds through association and introspection. Influenced by existential philosophy and speculative thought, his works do not offer direct answers, but instead invite the viewer into reflection and personal interpretation.
