This piece is a study of movement, color and form and how shapes intersect and crop the female figure in a way that makes sense visually. Cropping out certain parts of the body allow the background and the foreground to unify; while focusing the detail on the figure allows the eye to go back and forth between the illusion of realism and the obvious painted shapes on the canvas.

Luke Mack is an American painter who has exhibited in the United States. His works have also been featured in publications such as Vice and Create Magazine. Mack’s art takes a critical viewpoint of western society and culture, as well as delving into themes that concern the effects of technology, bad habits, spirituality, and otherness. Combining figurative realism with abstract elements, his process usually begins with a photograph. After digitally editing and distorting the image, he transfers it onto canvas using oils.
