"Melbourne 2012" Print

This painting, lived through over 8 years of life with me, as it has changed, evolved, been destroyed and resolved. I was young in a big new city, alone. I started this in my kitchen on the floor, and its bones are the same with more pleasing additions. The painting was meant as a release, it initially was a series of semi aggressive swipes over the canvases.. then, at this time struggling with sadness, I began to create figures and text, all with the idea of the ego. Ego the destroyer. A pregnant figure.. (which actually happened a year later) .. and animals.. incorporated in the texts. My work has always mostly had text. Some shouldnt have text. But the ones that do, involve poetry of sorts, learned in Creative Writing at Massey University NZ. Hope it gives hope and that it satisfies your eyes.
