About The Artwork

Ink, Spray paint and Marker on canvas 92H x 73W x 2 cm (36,22H x 28,74W x 0,78 in). Ships in a box. 'Memories Of A Blue Ocean' is an abstract interpretation of our planet and oceans representing a clear and blurred double vision. Which could mean forgetfulness and memory in a state of contemplation. My interest in climate issues is represented here by the contrast between the ethereal and light background that would be forgetfulness and the precise and graphic organic lines that would be the memory. As Christian Boltanski said, "Forgetfulness is stronger than memory," that is, the human brain is better able to forget than to remember. At the moment we can ask ourselves whether it is easier to forget and deny climate issues than to remember catastrophic consequences that have already been made and repeated. The human brain knows its limits and often forces the being to remain passive rather than to act. The contemplative state facing danger can engender inertia and thus modify the vision of beauty and ugliness. So to forget the chaos the memory of beauty remains. That's what I try to paint. 'Memories Of A Blue Planet' est une interprétation abstraite de notre planète et nos océans représentant une double vision nette et floutée. Ce qui pourrait signifier l'oubli et la mémoire dans un état de contemplation. L'intérêt que je porte sur les enjeux climatiques sont ici représentés par le contraste entre le fond éthéré et léger qui serait l'oubli et les lignes organiques précises et graphiques qui seraient la mémoire. Comme disait Christian Boltanski "L'oubli est plus fort que la mémoire', c'est à dire que le cerveau humain est plus apte à oublier que de se rappeler. A l'heure actuelle on peut se demander s'il est plus facile d'oublier et de nier les enjeux climatiques plutôt que de se rappeler des conséquences catastrophiques déjà opérées et répétées. Le cerveau humain connait ses limites et oblige souvent l'être à rester passif plutôt que d'agir. L'état contemplatif face danger peut engendrer une inertie et ainsi modifier la vision du beau et du laid. Ainsi pour oublier le chaos la mémoire de la beauté reste. C'est ce que je tente de peindre.

The work of Marijah Bac Cam questions the Memory of the Living through the Languages of the Feminine Principle (creative principle of Nature) by means of drawing, painting and increasingly photography and video. What does this chaos of fullness and emptiness mean, enhanced with dots, curves, golden wefts and gestural writing? In the artist's painting we perceive a Living being organized before our eyes, starting with the diffusion of black ink. These dark masses mingle with another color to symbolize the different elements, air, water, fire, earth, ether. Suddenly an organic mesh forms on the surface, connected to the misty depth. It is a question of reversal, as if to lead our gaze towards an inner world, that of the organs, tissues, vessels of an unrepresented body. These drawings express more sensibly an intuitive word in a vegetal and vibratory atmosphere that are our buried memories. They are the representation of the original past in a form that is no longer mental but metaphorical. Graffiti sometimes float here and there, like a palimpsest as if to inscribe a forgotten verbal dimension and question the meaning of forms. Her work evokes images that are almost figurative but difficult to identify. It's a question of everyone's point of view, seen from the sky or underwater, in macro or even in a wide shot. This collective memory seems to define and tell terrestrial and extra-terrestrial landscapes. Does Nature have a universal language that hides in our memory?
