Inspired by those misty, rainy English days, where the rain seems to hang thick in the air. This painting is made up of many layers of acrylic, spray paint and ink. In order to achieve the mistiness that I really love about this piece, I painted layer upon layer of diluted blue ink over a base of acrylic and spray paint. I played with textures by painting on wet and dry, and did countless experiments to work out how to achieve the right shade of damp blue. The ink itself is from Jacksons, a local supplier, and is a water resistant drawing ink. This means that when applied over a wet and dry background, the colour clings to certain parts of the painting, adding more depth and variation. I hope this piece brings to mind a sense of calm and restfulness. Ashvajit, a poet who writes all about the colour blue, once wrote: ‘Blue was the way things were, The way things had to be.’ This piece embodies this feeling of blue as a natural state of being. This piece is signed and dated on the back and comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. It will be carefully wrapped and shipped within 5 working days.

London-based artist Flora Butler graduated with a 1st Class Degree from The University of the Arts London in 2018. She has since founded the community-focused publishing company The Mindful Editions, works with charity Chayn to facilitate a series of creative workshops for survivors of gender-based violence, and continues to develop her painting practice. Butler’s work focuses on the intricate patterns present in nature and highlights their beauty. Inspired by images of cells from different mushrooms and plants, her paintings play with shape and texture, using different mediums to create depth and form. She has had pieces exhibited in galleries across the UK, taken part in numerous group shows, and held her first solo show, Aria, in Hackney at the start of 2022.
