I sketched this in the front garden of Claude Monet's famous house in Giverny during a spring visit in 2024. I then brought the sketch home to the UK and finished painting it. Across the road from the house and this view is Monet's other, world famous garden, with its iconic Japanese pond and lilies...

I'm a Lebanese British artist, and my work explores themes of atmosphere, light and human presence in both urban and natural landscapes. Drawing inspiration from impressionism and post-impressionism, my paintings capture fleeting atmospheric moments, whether in a bustling city street or a quiet horizon. A long career in international news exposed me to the world’s turbulence, but art became my way of holding onto its beauty. Painting offered a shift in focus, from reporting on crises to celebrating energy, connection, and the quiet poetry of everyday life. My work embraces a sense of timelessness, where light, colour and gesture bring scenes to life more than realism ever could. Ultimately, my art is about atmosphere and presence. Each painting is an invitation to pause, to look more closely, and to rediscover the poetry of everyday life.
