Moorland Encounter Print

This is a very special painting, representing a moment in time of great significance. I was in Scotland, escaping into countryside for peace and reflection. Walking off the beaten track, I had crossed a river and was looking up the hill where I caught sight of a stag. For what felt like an hour, the stag and I looked at each other. The stag was faint on the horizon, blending into the golds and browns of the winter hillside gently reflecting the sun. I wanted to capture the moment of nature, the expanse and textures of the wilderness, the light and the stormy sky, to remind us of our relationship with nature, how we both exist as guardians and supporters of nature but also our insignificance in such wild spaces.
