A western artist with a transcendental bent, Zachary Jordan takes inspiration from mysticism and monism. At a point of desperation in early 2021, he spent time in meditation with an earlier work, through which he began to unearth profound truths about himself. Maybe it was the brush strokes, maybe it was the gaze, or maybe it was something else that caused this piece that spoke back; regardless the cause, in that moment he realized he had to create a full series of animal portraits to share this revelatory experience. His works are created with seemingly endless layers of translucent paint strokes that convey a timeless depth, mystery, and knowing. The artist recommends viewers to spend time with the paintings in a meditative setting, where these animals may have the chance to respond back.
